Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
